The Thrill Of Victory
“The winner is...!” What person doesn’t like the sound of that? We all hope to win in our endeavors and learn at a very young age that the sound of applause and celebration is thrilling. At the same time, as Charles Krauthammer proposed, “In sports, the pleasure of winning is less than the pain of losing.” Or, perhaps in theater, the “high” of performing is outdone by the emptiness of “stage-less” living.
In other words, this world offers nothing of permanent joy. Most of us have received some sort of accolades or awards along the way of life: participation on a championship team, a good grade in school, a top performer certificate, or even a photo in the newspaper. Some of us have trophies or medals on shelves in memoriam of a victorious moment. But trophies and medals tarnish, ribbons and certificates fade, and glorious photos lose their color. The Bible declares that there is a reward in heaven that is not temporary but eternal. That our pursuit of Him has everlasting joy that far outshines anything this world has to offer. So here’s the challenge: instead of only pursuing the best this life has to offer, why not also prioritize the prize that heaven says is available to every person?
Why not make sure that your life is lived with an eye on eternity, and additionally that you share His love with as many people as possible. I can’t imagine any joy greater than seeing loved ones and friends in heaven, perhaps because or your testimony. Now that's a race worth running.
