DAY 7

Day SEVEN:  TRUST GOD WITH YOUR FEARS

II Timothy 1:12 and Psalm 27:3-14 (NLT)

II Timothy 1:12 “That is why I am suffering here in prison.  But I am not ashamed of it, for I know the one in whom I trust, and I am sure that he is able to guard what I have entrusted to him until the day of his return.”

Psalm 27:3 “Though a mighty army surrounds me, my heart will not be afraid.  Even if I am attacked, I will remain confident.”

When something is precious to you – a rare coin, an expensive piece of jewelry, or an irreplaceable heirloom – you carefully place it in a hidden spot or entrust it to the protection of a safe deposit box.  You firmly believe that it won’t be stolen, broken, or burned up.  But only that which is in heaven is truly safe.

We need to trust our Heavenly Father in all areas of our life.  What is it in your life that you need to entrust God with today?  How about considering two things: What are you worried about and what is causing you pain today?  Remember, your Heavenly Father promises to take care of your every need.  (“All things work together…” Romans 8:28).

When you worry, you act like you don’t believe you have a Father in heaven who loves you and will take care of you.  Worry and faith cannot coexist because when you worry you are literally saying that you don’t believe God can be trusted.

Often, the most difficult thing to put in God’s hands is your pain, fear, and worry.  He can be trusted with your deepest hurts and needs.  In Psalm 27, David slams the door on fear with his DECLARATION in verse 3: “My heart will not be afraid…even if I am attacked, I will remain confident.”  Then he PRAYS: “The one thing I ask of the Lord” (vs. 4).  He then shares his VISION: delighting in the Lord’s perfections.  GOD’S WORD is next: “meditating in His   temple” (vs. 4).

David then professes GOD’S PROTECTION: “For he will conceal me there when troubles come; he will hide me in his sanctuary.  He will place me out of reach on a high rock” (vs. 5).

And David WORSHIPS moment by moment: “Then I will hold my head high above my enemies who surround me.  At his sanctuary I will offer sacrifices with shouts of joy, singing and praising the Lord with music” (vs. 6).

He RESTS in His presence: “While I am here in the land of the living” (vs. 13).

Finally, David ends this Psalm with DETERMINATION: “Wait patiently for the Lord.  Be brave and courageous.  Yes, wait patiently for the Lord” (vs. 14).

God wants you to entrust your worries and your pain into the open arms of His love.

Heavenly Father, we thank You that You are more trustworthy than any safe or person!  God help us to not live based on our understanding, but to live each day in faith and fully trust You with all areas of our life (Proverbs 3:5-6).

Prayer Points:

Personal:  Daily deny ourselves so we can carry the cross of Jesus.
