DAY 15
Day Fifteen: DEDICATE EVERYTHING TO GOD
Psalm 8:1 and Psalm 9:1 (NIV)
Psalm 8:1 “O Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth! You have set your glory in the heavens.” (NIV).
Psalm 9:1 “I will give thanks to you Lord, with all my heart; I will tell of all your wonderful deeds” (NIV).
God is not given proper respect today. He is often flippantly referred to as “the man upstairs-“
more of a buddy than the eternal God of Creation. Many see Him as nothing more than a cosmic Santa Claus or an absent-minded grandfather who is in heaven and winks at sin.
Unfortunately, even Christians can be affected by these views. Such sin dishonors God and undermines the next step to humility which is God awareness. Instead of getting our ideas of God from the world, we need to rely on what the Word says!
David said, “O Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth! (Psalm 8:1a). As he contemplated the exalted position of God, it was only natural for him to say, “What is man, that you are mindful of him, the son of man that you care for him? (Psalm 8:4 NIV). We are so minuscule by comparison; it is a wonder He cares for us at all. But “though the Lord is exalted, yet He regards the lowly” Psalm 138:6 (NKJV).
The more we comprehend and truly understand the greatness of God, the more humble we will become. When we genuinely realize the eminence of God, we begin to devote more of our life to Him. To have a strong family, business, or community of friends, we need to dedicate these things to God. Without completely giving Him our energy and time, what we build begins to decay. As we grow in our commitment to Him, these things continue to stay strong and resilient.
The people of Israel went through this pattern repeatedly. They would trust God; things would improve; then complacency would set in and things would fall apart; and they would have to start over and trust God again.
The key to seeing this pattern happen is found in DEDICATING it all to God. This means to wholly and earnestly commit it to Him. Look at Nehemiah. He knew the wall would not be truly completed until it had been dedicated. The dedication was not some nice little celebration ceremony at the end of the project; it was an all-important part of the rebuilding, which recognized who would get the credit for its usefulness – God!
Heavenly Father, may we be acutely aware of every area of our life and not take things back from You once the crisis passes. May we dedicate our works to you and trust You completely in all areas of our life as we daily examine our hearts.
