DAY 13

Day Thirteen:  GROW YOUR FAITH

Matthew 17:20 and I Corinthians 13:2 (NIV)

Matthew 17:20 “He replied, ‘Because you have so little faith.  Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there’ and it will move.  Nothing will be impossible for you.”

I Corinthians 13:2 “If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not love, I am nothing.”

How do you respond when presented with a challenge that calls for a surge of faith in God?  Are you hesitant? Tentative? Fearful? Or optimistic?

The author and teacher Henrietta Mears had a beautiful motto: “Dream big whenever God is involved.”  In her life, she managed to do exactly that and turned an unheard-of Sunday school department at First Presbyterian Church in Hollywood, California, into a program that drew thousands into a deeper walk of their faith in Christ.

The key to breaking the faith barrier and more effectively anchoring your trust in God is an exalted view of God Himself and clearly comprehending His attributes!

Too often people think, “If I want to have more faith, I have to work at it more.”  You do have to make this decision, but your strategy must  include seeing God for who He really is, not to struggle to obtain more faith or strive to have a more positive mind-set.

When the disciples thirsted to have more faith, Jesus told them all that was necessary was to have faith the size of a mustard seed.  “Use what you have,” Jesus was saying, “and your faith will grow in the process.”

We use what faith we have, as little as it may seem, by magnifying our heart’s view of God.  When Moses was afraid to go to Pharoah, God exploded Moses’ worries with the revelation of Himself: “Thus you shall say to the sons of Israel, ‘I AM has sent me to you’” (Exodus 3:14 NASB).

We grow in faith by seeing God in a new light.  Our faith tends to be as big as our God.  If your notion of God is grand, your faith will soar.  If your picture of God is small, your faith will sag.  How big is your God?  See Him as He is, and you will shatter your doubts as you move forward in faith.

Heavenly Father, help our faith soar.  Give us eyes to see how strong  You are.  We desire to see You clearly and know You more intimately.  Shatter the obstacles of fear, disobedience, and faithfulness in our life.  We desire breakthrough that will crush our doubts and fears and permit us to move in confident faith and trust in You.

Prayer Points:

Personal:  The kingdom of God would saturate our life and build faith.
