DAY 12
Day Twelve: MAKE WISE DECISIONS
Proverbs 2:9 (NIV) and Proverbs 28:26 (TLB)
Proverbs 2:9 “Then you will understand what is right and just and fair ----every good
path” (NIV).
Proverbs 28:26 “A man is a fool to trust himself! But those who use God’s wisdom are
safe” (TLB).
The Bible gives a simple, workable plan to make wise decisions. Whether it is about your career, marriage, finances, health, your family, or even your future, it is important to follow these three principles for decision-making from God’s Word.
Dedicate time to pray for guidance.
Before you do anything else, get God’s perspective on the issue.
Have you ever made a foolish decision that you thought was the best thing to do at the time?
You need to make decisions based on something greater than simple intuition or a gut feeling.
You need to base your decisions on absolute truth from the Word of God.
When you do that you get God’s guidance.
Get all the facts before you make a decision.
We all make mistakes when we base decisions on uneducated enthusiasm.
The Bible says in Proverbs 18:13, “What a shame ---yes, how stupid! – to decide before knowing the facts!” (TLB).
It is helpful to ask for advice and talk to people who have made a similar decision.
Ask friends who know your weaknesses and can give wise godly counsel.
Learn to ask for advice!
It is wise to learn from your experience, and even wiser to learn from the experiences of others.
You don’t have time to learn everything from personal experience.
You can avoid making a lot of mistakes in your life if you consult with wise people around you.
Life is too short to learn everything by trial and error.
When my son played tennis, he intentionally played with better players to improve his game. In the same manner, we need to be around people who have healthy marriages if we want a better marriage, great parents to help us be more proficient in our parenting skills, and people who have healthy finances to give us guidance when we are struggling financially.
Heavenly Father, we pray we will continue to learn from Your Word. May we pray and allow You to direct our every footstep. Let us consider all the facts and seek godly counsel and carefully listen to the guidance of others who have maturity, insight, and experience.
