DAY 11
Day Eleven: HOW TO HANDLE YOUR BURDENS
Luke 12:22 and Psalm 55:22 (NIV)
Luke 12:22 “Then Jesus said to his disciples: “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat; or about your body, what you will wear.”
Psalm 55:22 “Cast your cares on the Lord and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous be shaken.”
Very few of us are prepared for the worst when it comes our way. Too often, tragedy strikes without any notice – the sudden death of a loved one, a layoff at work, a medical report confirming terminal illness, or a broken relationship that tears our heart apart.
These events and many more, have the potential to turn our world upside down. How do we handle circumstances that leave us suddenly feeling out of control, anxious, and frightened?
We go to God and surrender our hurts to Him. He may not completely remove the painfulness of our circumstances, but He will bring us peace when we turn to Him for guidance and comfort.
When our burdens become unbearable, we can seek to dump them in several places. Perhaps we have a friend who will listen to our problems. Or we can find strength in a brief getaway and time where we can be refreshed. Sometimes, we might even have access to a Christian counselor who can give us solid advice and professional help.
However, nothing or no one can provide the rest and relief that our Heavenly Father can when we come to Him with our disappointments and cares. Our Savior has broad shoulders, sturdy hands, and a tender and compassionate heart. He bids us to give Him every grievance or weighty matter.
If you are worrying or anxious and it has you at the breaking point, come to Jesus in prayer. Don’t be concerned about the right words; just honestly cry out to God. Tell Him how you feel. Prayer is simply talking with God, and that is what you do when you surrender your troubles to Jesus. Come to Him in childlike faith. Jesus said that He would give us His light and an easy load in return for our heaviness. We can always rely on His promises.
God can sustain you as you trust Him more. Focus on His power, and you will receive His
all-sufficient help. We serve a God who goes above and beyond all that we ask for. He will not let you down. He will never leave you or disown you. He will not let you fall. Jesus hears your every heartfelt plea. He will lighten your load when you rely on Him so that you may persevere in His strength.
Heavenly Father, sometimes it seems as if our burdens are unbearable. We thank You for Your broad shoulders, sturdy hands, and compassionate heart. You promise us that if we exchange our anxiety, worry, and release our cares to You, You will give us Your peace and power.
