With All I Have, For As Long As I Can
We were sitting in a crowd of pastors when the speaker made a comment that has remained with me. “I may not be able to ‘out preach’ you,” he said, “but I doubt that any of you love God more than I do.” His point was not to create a competition, but to validate the higher calling of any believer, including any pastor, and that is to simply love God with everything you’ve got. When all is said and done, it isn’t what you do for God that is going to matter, but who you are because of Him. It’s who you are, not what you do.
Before John baptized Jesus, God declared from the heavens, “This is my beloved Son in whom I am well pleased.” Before Jesus had preached one sermon, before He healed one person, before He set anyone free from oppression, and before He went to the Cross, God was already “well pleased” with Jesus. My friend, it is the same way with you. God doesn’t wait to love you until you have done an impressive amount of good works.
No, He loves you right now, fully and completely without reservations. Once we truly understand this, then like the Psalmist we too will praise God not for approval but out of gratefulness, not to demonstrate loyalty, but to express our genuine love of the Father. Join us in committing to praising God with all that you have, for as long as you have breath. Unless you have someone or something else that is more important…
