Only Through God
Do you ever face challenges that exceed your resources?
A bill comes in from a hospital stay that takes your breath away. Your employer is in the process of downsizing, and you may be caught up in it. Your daughter has become involved with the wrong group of friends. Or, a bad habit has taken over your life and threatens to ruin you.
The adversary of our souls is real and menacing. Satan has plans to “steal, kill, and destroy.” Our challenges are real too. The storms we face can threaten every thing we hold dear.
Sherry and I were so tight financially for the first 15 years of our marriage that any variance in expense was devastating. One time while buying donuts for the kids to bribe them to go to church with me, I lost our $20 of lunch money for In-N-Out, and felt like my world had ended. I could never see a day when we would have enough.
But God had a plan—a hope and a future. Within about ten years, our resources began to grow, and God’s favor began to pour out on us. He can do things quickly! All three of our children received scholarships for college, and we were able to begin saving money. The financial monster over our world was slain. We didn’t do it; God did.
One of my favorite verses is Zechariah 4:6, "Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit."
As a Jesus follower, claim the promise of today’s verse written by King David. He is your champion, and you are more than a conqueror in Him (Romans 8:37).
