DAY 20

Day Twenty:   PURE AND POWERFUL WORDS

Psalm 12:6

Psalm 12:6 “The words of the Lord are pure words, like silver tried in a furnace of earth purified seven times” (NKJV)

God’s Word is awesome, beautiful, complex, and wonderful.  The Word of God is living and transforms our mindset, hearts, and is a healing balm to us when we allow it.  God’s Word is so pure and wonderful it explains how to handle every situation, every part of life from marriage, money, parenting, finances, and more.

With all the technology surrounding us, we hear thousands of messages every day.  Linda Stone who was formerly of Apple and Microsoft, coined the term “continuous partial attention” to describe the constant distractions of email, texting, cell phones, and all social media devices.  She observes, “To pay continuous partial attention is to pay partial attention – continuously…”  We want to connect and to be connected.  We desire to effectively scan for opportunity and optimize for the best opportunities, activities, and contacts, in any given moment.

Too often, we value all received messages equally.  God’s Word, though, is more precious and valuable than any other message sent to us.  The psalmist describes God’s message as “pure words” that are like silver processed “seven times” in the furnace.  The number seven signifies completion and perfection throughout Scriptures.  God’s Word is perfect and in alignment with the character of God.  It is the supreme measure of truth, and it imparts light and life to those who treasure it.

When we read and hear God’s Word, we need to sit up and take notice.  If we don’t understand it, we need to dig deeper until we find out what it means.  And when God uses His Word to redirect our steps, we are wise to say, “Yes, Lord, I am listening.”  God’s Word directs us along His path, and that way is perfect for us each day.

George W. Truett once said, “To know the will of God is surely the greatest knowledge!  To do the will of God is the greatest achievement.”

We learn of our identity in Christ through the Word.  According to Scripture we are the salt of the earth; children of God; we have peace with God; we are joint heirs with Jesus; we are free from condemnation; we are ambassadors for Christ; we are justified by faith; we are eternally secure in Christ; we are citizens of heaven; we are triumphant in Christ; we are accepted and loved by Him; and we are complete in Christ.

Heavenly Father, please imprint Your Word upon our hearts and minds so that we can  know our identity in You every day, despite what the world says.  May we act like Christ in a courageous and loving way.  We submit ourselves for God’s transformation and are thankful for the change in our outlook, words, and actions.
