A 25 Day Preparation for the Celebration of Christ
Every day leading up to Christmas, we’ll “unwrap” a gift from the Lord. Today’s gift is…
“The Gift of Perseverance”
The shepherds went back to their flocks, glorifying and praising God for all they had heard and seen. It was just as the angel had told them. Luke 2:20 NLT
As we discussed yesterday, it is natural to want to spread good news. In the case of Christmas, the Good News is the birth of Jesus. When they came back after seeing Jesus and spreading this Good News, the shepherds continued to praise God!
When we look at this Biblical account, it may be easy to say, “Well, that’s easy for the shepherds to do because they did not have any problems!” However, taking a closer look at the life of a shepherd we realize that nobody dreamed of being a shepherd. Rather, this was the last job on the list. It is safe to assume that shepherds had their share of problems, let alone an overall sense that they did not belong in their community.
For various reasons, our lives are overly busy, overly stressed, and sometimes not nearly as fulfilling as we want them to be. However, the shepherds give us a good example, that in the midst of difficult times, we must keep praising God. They were able to look past their circumstances to their King.
This season, realizing that life can be difficult and at times feel unbearable, let’s lift up praises. Let’s persevere in giving thanks and praise to God, regardless of our circumstances, No matter what situation we are in, God loved us so much to send His Son for us so that we can live in a perfect relationship with Him for all eternity – and that’s something to be thankful for!
Today’s Challenge: Pray with your family or a friend, giving thanks and praise to Him.
